Welcome to Bijapur
Five hundred and thirty km to the north-west of Bangalore is the ancient town of Bijapur, the capital of the Adil Shahi dynasty. Known for its Islamic architecture, especially the huge-domed Gol Gumbaz which is to Bijapur what the Taj Mahal is to Agra, this walled city has numerous mosques, palaces and fortifications, some of which are considered to be the most beautiful and finely proportioned Islamic monuments found anywhere in the world.

While the nearest airport is Belgaum (205 km) which is connected to Mumbai, Bijapur is well connected by rail with Bangalore, Mumbai and Hospet. It is also connected by road to Aihole (129 km), Bangalore (581 km) Belgaum (205 km) and Mumbai (486 km).
PLACES OF INTEREST
Gol Gumbaz (its dome is an engineering marvel), Asar Mahal (which contains relics of Prophet Mohammed (Be Peace Upon Him)), Gol Shah, Jami Masjid, Mantar Mahal -- an excellent example of the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture, and Malik-i-Maidan, one of the largest bell metal guns in the world.
EXCURSIONS
Baravana Bagewadi (43 km) was the birthplace of Karnataka's greatest social and religious reformer Basaveswara, Gulbarga (159 km) - famous for its Sharans Basaveswara Narsimha temple and Kumtagi (16 km) which has a scenic lake and water pavilion.
